2012 has come to an end. It has been a break-out year for Picturesque…the type that dreams are made of. Seriously. I pinch myself every morning when I wake up to do what I love. What I love most about being a wedding photographer is getting to hang out with couples and their families on one of the most important day of their lives. It sounds cliche…but it’s true. I adore being right in the middle of all of these memories being made. I attended a wedding as a guest this year and it made me realize that we see the weddings of our clients in a more intimate way than any guest. We are there from the very beginning with getting ready photos. We are there as the nerves start to set in before the ceremony. We are there when the couple tearfully says ‘I do’. We are on the front row as they smash cake into each other’s faces and dance the night away….and we love every minute of it. Not only are we capturing moments and memories for our clients, but we are making memories for ourselves as well. Heath and I still talk about things that happen at the weddings we photograph because we are just as emotionally involved by the end as any guest. I. Love. My. Job.  This group of people will always have a special place in my heart and will always be a part of the Picturesque family.

Liana + Scott

I booked Liana and Scott at the last minute. We didn’t do an engagement session, which is rare for me, so I actually met them a couple  hours before the ceremony at a nearby park where we did some portraits. I was so impressed on how comfortable they were in front of the camera, which is not always easy just before you say ‘I do’. They had an intimate wedding at a Christian Orthodox Church and it was perfect. This is my absolute favorite shot from the day. The soft kiss…the hair blowing…the tender look…I’m in love.

Victoria

Victoria was the winner of our 2011 Bridal Giveaway contest that we hosted on Facebook. We gave an entire Bridal Session complete with professional hair and makeup, bouquet and venue fee. After a short discussion, she decided that she wanted her session at the Philbrook…a lovely location! We shot on a January morning and it was cold. Victoria did so amazing though! I just love these photos in the trees and how the morning light makes them sparkle.

Gloss Mountain Bridal

Heath and I drive through the Gloss Mountains in central Oklahoma every time we go back to Western Kansas. Every time we drive through them, we talk about how amazing a bridal session would be there. Last spring we decided to make it happen. We were headed back to see my Mom and we decided to see what we could work up at the last minute. I called my favorite makeup artist, Makeup by Mikala…who happens to have grown up in a small town near the Gloss Mountains…she was in. Then I called a friend (who is a talented model) to see if she had any friends that were interested. The catch was that they had to fit into my wedding dress. Angie agreed and was perfect! I think she even looked better in my dress than I did! We wanted a long flowing veil. So Angie and I went to Hobby Lobby that morning and made one. We timed it where we would get there an hour before sunset then we would head on through to Kansas, Mikala would stay there and Angie would head home. It was quite an adventure but I just love the results. This sessions borders on a bridal and a trash-the-dress session.

Stephanie + Brandon

Stephanie and Brandon kicked off my wedding season with their classy wedding at the Hard Rock Hotel in Tulsa. Stephanie seriously looked like a movie star! The ceremony and reception were in the same room, which I think is so cool. You don’t have to worry about losing guests between the ceremony and the reception. The couple opted for a first look so we were able to take portraits before the ceremony. Such a sweet couple!

Jennifer + Glenn

Jennifer and Glenn had a beautifully intimate wedding at Five Oaks Lodge this spring. I was familiar with the set up because we did their engagement photos there last December. I love the idea of matching the engagement session to the wedding venue! The ceremony was held on the deck overlooking the lake at sunset. It was stunning! The reception was inside the lodge where they had a live band. I love live bands! This photos was taken between the ceremony and reception at sunset by the stables. The light was perfect. It doesn’t even look like Oklahoma with the beautiful pine trees.

Sarah + Travis

Sarah and Travis rounded out my April with a beautiful Summit Club wedding. They told me that they wanted the ceremony short and sweet. I heard a guest say that it lasted 8 minutes. It was exactly what they wanted and it was perfect! The ceremony was on the 32nd floor next to a wall of windows over looking downtown Tulsa at sunset. The reception moved to the 31st floor where there was lots of dancing. This photo was taken at the getting ready venue, Hyatt Regency Tulsa, just before heading to the ceremony. I love it when couples opt for a first look!

Megan

Megan had a friend shoot her engagement session before she booked with me so we substituted a bridal session in her package. We threw around a couple ideas and ended up deciding on shooting at Stone Bluff Cellars outside of Haskell. She wanted the session before the wedding so that she could have a portrait at her reception.  It was a beautiful day for a session! We even enjoyed a glass of wine as Megan was getting pampered. I loved the whole spring setting but I’m a sucker for head shots. There is something about being able to look into someone’s eyes that is captivating. This was my favorite from the session!

Melinda + Alan

I started my May with Melinda and Alan’s beautiful Bartlesville wedding. They opted for a first look and we were able to head downtown for a few portraits of the sweet couple. I just love these two. Even when things weren’t going as planned, Melinda kept a smile on her face…when most brides would have had tears. After the ceremony we took the wedding party to the train depot for some of my favorite wedding party photos this year. Such a cool setting!

Joy + Ben

Joy and Ben are two of my favorite people. I worked closely with Joy for a couple years and we became good friends. I just love her sense of humor! For them, Heath and I traveled to South Carolina, where Joy grew up. It was a stunning setting for a wedding with giant oak trees with moss hanging down, lots of blooming hydrangeas and a beautiful sunset. It was magical. The reception was held at the pool house near the ceremony tree. Joy and Ben did not have a first look but they did have a first touch (see the blog post below) where they reached around the corner of the building to talk and hold hands before the ceremony. So. Sweet! This photo was take right after the ceremony.

Megan + Ben

I finished out my May with Megan and Ben’s Kirk of the Hills (also where they met) wedding. It was so beautiful! On our way to the reception (BA Elks) we were able to stop at my favorite open field for a few portraits of the happy couple. The reception/dance was so much fun…Megan and Ben have a lively bunch of family and friends!

Aubrey + Cody

We started June in SW Kansas with Aubrey and Cody. This couple did opt for a first look and we went to a nearby farm for some portraits with them and the wedding party. The sun was pretty high so we had to work mostly in the shade and we got some great shots. This one was taken by a silo…and, yes, it was that windy. We did help that veil fly at all. Love it!

Britton + Isaiah

Britton and Isaiah had the most lovely and heart-felt wedding at the Siloh this June. The ceremony was out on the grounds and the reception inside the Siloh. The couple did have a first look and we did photos with them and wedding party on the grounds before the ceremony. They have become our poster couple for the year with this photo appearing in our 2013 Brides of Oklahoma advertisement. I just love their style!

Jessica + Brantley

We started back up in August with Jessica and Brantley’s country wedding. They had a church wedding and cake and punch reception so we had plenty of time for portraits after the reception at sunset. I LOVE that this couple scheduled so much time with us. Jessica even rounded up an old couch to take into the field by Brantley’s house. We practically had a day-after session the day of! I appreciate couple who appreciate photography!

Mindy + Tyler

We headed back to SW Kansas for Mindy and Tyler’s Meade wedding. The receiving line after the ceremony took a little longer than expected so we were running low on time for a few sunset portraits of the couple. We drove very fast out to a field by the high school and got this gem (and many others!) as the sun dipped below the tree line. We literally had 5 minutes but it was so worth it! I love this photo! The whole day was so special.

Abby + Ryan

We finished our August with Abby and Ryan’s Asbury United Methodist Church wedding. They had the ceremony in the ‘chapel’ which is bigger than any church in my home town. The architecture and natural lighting of the building was amazing. A photographer’s dream! This photos was taken in the breezeway from the chapel to the main sanctuary after the ceremony. We then headed to the Summit Club downtown for the reception. Such a fun couple!

Jerica + Jesse

In September we traveled to Dodge City, Kan., for Jerica and Jesse’s beautiful wedding. We did as many portraits before the ceremony that we could separately as the couple did not want to see each other. After the ceremony, we headed to the train depot for some fun shots with them and the wedding party. This is one of my absolute favorites! Love this couple!

Erin + Bruce

Erin and Bruce had an adorable backyard fall wedding. They had the ceremony then a barbeque with close friends and family. It was all so perfect with all of the decorations, Christmas lights and lanterns in the pond and pool. Love!

Miranda + Jeremy

Ah, Miranda and Jeremy! My October at The Mayo Hotel was so much fun! We did a first look with the couple then did almost all of the portraits before the ceremony. The ceremony was so sweet with so many little personal touches, like Miranda’s dad playing the piano. After the ceremony we went to the roof for a few photos with the Mayo sign in the background. These photos were taken in the Crystal Ballroom. Love!

Megan + Eric

My November wedding at the Gilcrease with Megan and Eric was absolutely stunning! They started the day at a local mansion to get ready (the perfect getting ready location, in case you were wondering). We had planned on doing portraits before the wedding but ran out of time and ended up doing them all afterwards. It worked out perfectly because we shot these during the golden hour just as the sun is setting. Megan and Eric had such a fun group of friend and family…the reception/dancing was so much fun!

Bethany + Chris

Bethany and Chris had the cutest December wedding shortly after Christmas. It snowed the day before the wedding but it wasn’t enough to stick. This wedding had so many adorable country details and even had the reception outside with firepits and heaters…the perfect ambiance!
